Dfinity will sue META for trademark registration of a logo that looks similar to theirs and can create confusion so let’s have a closer look at today’s latest cryptocurrency news.

Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms Inc, got sued by Dfintiy for coming up with a logo that looks similar which can lead to confusion. Dfinity will sue Meta for the trademark registration of a logo that looks similar to the one of their own and can lead to confusion. Dfinity is a non-profit organization which develops the Internet Computer protocol filed a lawsuit in California against Meta and claimed that the company was using the logo way too similar in its own to attract more customers and bring more people to its centralized metaverse.

As per Dfinity, the company’s trademark is represented by the infinity symbol which was registered on October 9, 2018, at the US Patent and Trademark Office. Dfinity’s lawsuit relies on the international classifications under which the company was registered and these collide with the ones of META. Dfinity obtained the trademark for providing blockchain technology services and in addition, it noted that the color palette is not claimed as a feature of the mark and that’s why its ownership extends to color variations. Dfinity outlined that the logo has been used on the website since 2017 while Meta registered its logo in 2022.

According to Dfinity, Meta is aware of the resemblance but it claims its design is just a geometric design that consists of two loops so it chose to continue with its application to obtain an operating registration similar to Dfinity. That is why Dfinity will sue Meta and alleges that they obtained the trademark registration to offer the same services which Meta wants to provide like “Design and development of computer hardware and software and software”; “Hosting of software applications of others”; and “Hosting of digital content on the internet.”

Dfinity says in its lawsuit that Meta will be infringing the law by using a previously registered IP without any authorization while the ICP developers believed that this conduct caused Dfinity to lose or will lose revenue:

“The similarities between Meta’s mark and Dfinity’s mark, and Meta’s intended use of its mark in the same space and through the same customer base as Dfinity, will cause confusion because consumers will mistakenly believe that Meta and its services are connected with, sponsored by, affiliated with, or related to Dfinity, or that Dfinity and its services are connected with, sponsored by, affiliated with or related to Meta.”
